Good Monday morning. I'm author Richard V. Rupp, writing from Burbank, California. Welcome to Rupp's Notes/FBI Special Agent Hartman Series posts.

 

I watched some of the Olympics closing ceremonies but got bored and turned it off. I'm sure it was designed to be dramatic, but it took too long to extinguish the torch. At least in my mind.

 

I am into the PBS Masterpiece Show "Unforgotten." Looking forward to the final episode next Sunday. For some reason, I started watching the humorous 'bloody serial killer'??? old TV Series Dexter. It aired from 2006 to 2013. Apparently, they are playing old episodes of the show as new episodes are returning to the screen this Fall. I find the writing in both "Unforgotten" and "Dexter" to be great.

 

Here's a text from my son Matt, who just got his first set of eyeglasses. "Surprise no one has said this . . .No matter the state of the American psyche, we have been and still are the best at the Olympics. The win of our Women's Indoor Volleyball Team to put us ahead of China for total golds was awesome! USA!!!"

 

According to a report released by the United Nations on Monday, climate change is changing Earth in ways that are "unprecedented" and "irreversible." The sobering assessment provides the strongest case yet for human-caused global warming, saying it's "unequivocal that human influence has warmed the atmosphere, ocean, and land." This is part of the reason in my upcoming novel SKYWARD my group of millennial characters believes colonization of space, starting with the moon, is so important.

 

I'm reading THE LONG GAME: China's Grand Strategy to Displace American Order by Rush Doshi. It is helping me refine my plotline in SKYWARD, where POTUS must find a way to compete with the Chinese establishing a military base on the moon. Because of the current American political climate, he backs my Millenial's efforts to establish a moon colony. Here's a bit of the dialog in my novel between a senior member of the Communist Party and his son, who has been selected to establish the Chinese moon base. "America no longer has the dollars or will to counter our control of space. This will lead to their downfall here on Earth. Chinese eyes will be raised toward you, my son. . . You will lead the Forth Great Territory Initiative to the Moon's South Pole. We will control land, sea, air, and space."

 

I may have a strange way of novel writing. I just finished the final chapter of the manuscript, but I still have a lot of work to do in the middle of it.
